10 for 10: 10 Years, 10 Intentional Actions to do Together

Ten years is a milestone.  A decade of work and of dedication from the Calgary community.  From founders and Board to staff and volunteers, from our kitchen family to our Twitter friends, from families at home to students in school – the reach of ten years of Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids is greater than we ever imagined.

And yet, we’re not patting our backs for being in business for ten years.  A wise committee member pointed out, why should we celebrate a decade of kids being hungry?

Instead, we are celebrating commitment and community.  The commitment that so many of you have made to make this your problem and the community that has come together in support of our work.   A true Calgarian family, a decade in the making.

Knowing us means knowing that we don’t always do the usual things.  This year, our birthday wish list is made up of things not just for us – but of things we can do together.  Intentional actions that we can take to make sure that all children are loved and cared for by family, community and society.

Join us, starting today and for the next 10 months, in our 10 Intentional Actions.  Our 10 for 10.

Thank you for all that you do.

10 for 10

1.  Speak to 10 friends about Brown Bagging.

Update: What a great time to get started on Number 1: Join in Prosser Charitable Foundation Matching Campaign, through November 15!

2.  Hold a fund raiser for BB4CK – anything from a night out for drinks to a company event.   (See our calendar to participate & for inspiration!)

3.  Think bigger and beyond. What action can you commit to for 10 days? 10 weeks? 10 months?

4.  Go for a day without food and tweet about it. How do you feel? Concentration? Mood? Energy? Raise money doing it.

5.  Prepare and deliver a lunch to hungry kids.

6.  Volunteer in the kitchen, in the community.

7.  Talk about issues of hungry kids locally and beyond on Facebook, on Twitter (hashtag #bb4ck10) with family and friends, etc

8.  Call your local school, church or community centre and ask what they need to help feed hungry kids.

9.  Dream up an imaginative – maybe unrealistic – solution to child hunger. Just think about it.

10.  SAVE the DATE:  Join us on Friday, June 8, 2012 for our Finale, the BB4CK BBQ, to share stories and experience of the actions you’ve carried out over the past ten months and challenging us all in our new decade.
