Food for Thought

Food for Thought was created in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education to combat increasing numbers of youth attending Calgary schools without a lunch. We currently deliver 1000 brown bag lunches to
40+ different schools daily.

Who is eligible?

Food for thought primarily targets youth identified as low income, but is open to any youth who arrives at school without a lunch.

What does it cost?

Food for thought is free of charge and lunches are delivered for maximum ease.

What does a lunch consist of?

Each lunch contains a healthy sandwich, vegetables, fruit, juice or milk and a snack. Each item carries a high nutritional value and either meets or exceeds the Canadian health recommendations.

Why brown bag lunches?

  • They are easily administered to students by volunteers.
  • The lunches are uniform and are not distinguishable from any lunch a student would normally bring from home.
